Unlike Film 11, Film 12 students are expected to have a good working knowledge of the basics of filmmaking. Students often work independently from the instructor through hands-on assignments and projects communicated through an online curriculum.

It is strongly recommended that students take Film 11 before proceeding to Film 12.
 
Students are required to make four films through the course.  Of the first three films you make, each must be a different film type.  The fourth film is your grande, culminating work that should be film festival quality.  You are also required to become an expert in one area of film history and to present your expertise in a format of your choosing.  It is expected that students of this course will enter a Film in a Film Festival.  All Festival regulations apply - Breaking copyright is not acceptable.

Students select THREE from the choices offered below, numbers 1 – 7, (the final project, number eight, is mandatory).
 

• The Instructional Video: share your wisdom

• Public Service Announcement - a message for the greater good

• The Documentary - pursue a curiosity

• Music Video - visually portray a good piece of music

• Experimental - try all things possible, and impossible

• Spoken Word - visual and auditory poetry

• Stop Motion Animation - claymation and/or real objects or people

• Narrative - the most common

• Sports/Lifestyle - a new genre is born

• The Final Project - pull all the stops

Course Evaluation:

• Quizzes and short assignments are worth 30%.

COURSE CONTENT

This is a project-based course. Nearly all learning outcomes will be demonstrated by the creation of projects.

There are written components to most projects. These written components are used to provide you with an opportunity to explain the intention of the image and provide for self-reflection.

The photography component of projects is mostly about your ability to take photos according to the assigned criteria. There are some aspects of computer image manipulation and file management, however these are of less weight then most important: capturing of the moment.

CONTENT POLICY

All Media created on school property, and all footage used for school projects must be appropriate for school showing/use.
 
Inappropriate material includes:

• promoting drugs or alcohol

• containing course language

• violent scenes

• racial slurs or attacks

• sexually suggestive scenes

• revealing illegal activities

Inappropriate media* will result in:

• immediate zero on project

• prohibition from equipment use

• possible administrative action

Signed consent must be obtained before filming/recording any individual.
Students must obey copyright laws.
 
*Content decisions are at the discretion of the Media teacher
