Unit 2

​What to Expect:
Photo 11 is about using a camera to make art.  Through a large variety of assignments we explore different techniques to make photos more interesting and more artistic.  We also explore how to use photo editing software to enhance photos and create digital art.

1.  Tech Zone

​The Tech Zone Project introduces you to Aperture Control (A) and Shutter Speed (S) modes on your camera. You will use these two modes to develop creative photos and apply the Photoshop Workflow mentioned above.​

Typology
Typology is the collection of collections; it's studying the amazing spectrum of variation  based on a shared attribute. To get started, review the Typology Project Outline. For this Project, you will be using poster sizing. Use the Photoshop Workflow for Poster Tutorial to properly size your image. You may find the video tutorial Formatting For Posters helpful with this project.
The Historical Timeline
No one can call themselves a true photographer if they aren't familiar with those who came before them.  In the History of Photography Project, you will create a PowerPoint outlining the Top 20 Key Historical moments of photography.
Historical Photography
Time to demonstrate your knowledge of both photography and history. In the Historical Photo Recreation Project, you will try to recreate a famous photo. Read the project outline for details.

Unit 3

1. Outdoor Portraits - Natural Light

Portraits are the mainstay of the professional photographer. Learning to take good portraits is a skill that will serve you for the rest of your life. Before you dive in and start shooting portraits, complete the Portrait Research Assignment. Once you have completed the assignment, you are ready to start the Natural Light Portraits Project.

2. Studio Portraits

​Lighting is a very important part of Photography. In this project, you will use 3 point lighting to produce excellent portraits.  Review the Studio Portraits Project Outline to begin.

3. Portrait Manipulation - Avatar

In the Avatar project, you will turn a portrait of yourself into an Avatar. Review the Avatar Project Outline.​ There are many sites that demonstrate how to make an Avatar but for the purposes of this project, we will use this Tom Cruise to Avatar Tutorial.

PHOTOSHOP LESSONS

 

1. Auto Format Your Images

Setup an Action in Photoshop to format your images automatically. Follow the Auto Format Tutorial to setup both a Landscape & Portrait format action.

2. Avatar Tutorials

The following video tutorials are loosely based on the Na Vi Avatar Photo Manipulation website:
- Photo setup and face colour
- Using the Stamp Tool
- Adding Ears. You will also need to download and decompress the Ears!
- Enlarge the Eyes
- Eye Colour
- Nose
- Levels
- Facial Designs
- Adding Dot Pattern

3.  Cropping Images​

To properly crop and image and remove something from it, you need to keep in mind the Photoshop Workflow. Use the Cropping Tutorial to remove a portion of a photo and still retain the correct aspect ratio for formatting.

4.  Photo Glitch

For this tutorial, you need a portrait shot of a person on a plain background. In Photoshop, follow the Glitch Photo Tutorial. Apply the Photoshop workflow to the photo and hand it in on TEAMS.

5. Custom Formatting For White Balance Shooting Assignment

The Custom Formatting for the White Balance Shooting Assignment should be completed after you have finished shooting.
