Unit 2

​What to Expect:
Photo 11 is about using a camera to make art.  Through a large variety of assignments we explore different techniques to make photos more interesting and more artistic.  We also explore how to use photo editing software to enhance photos and create digital art.

1.  Tech Zone

​The Tech Zone Project introduces you to Aperture Control (A) and Shutter Speed (S) modes on your camera. You will use these two modes to develop creative photos and apply the Photoshop Workflow mentioned above.​

Typology
Typology is the collection of collections; it's studying the amazing spectrum of variation  based on a shared attribute. To get started, review the Typology Project Outline. For this Project, you will be using poster sizing. Use the Photoshop Workflow for Poster Tutorial to properly size your image. You may find the video tutorial Formatting For Posters helpful with this project.
The Historical Timeline
No one can call themselves a true photographer if they aren't familiar with those who came before them.  In the History of Photography Project, you will create a PowerPoint outlining the Top 20 Key Historical moments of photography.
Historical Photography
Time to demonstrate your knowledge of both photography and history. In the Historical Photo Recreation Project, you will try to recreate a famous photo. Read the project outline for details.

Portraits

​What to Expect:
In this unit, Photo 12s will build on the portrait lessons learned in Photo 11. These projects involve advanced knowledge of portrait shots along with project specific expectations. Review your knowledge of portrait shooting prior to attempting any of these projects.

1. Fashion Photography

​Over time, fashion photography has developed its own aesthetic in which the clothes and fashions are enhanced by the presence of exotic locations or accessories. Review the Fashion Photography Project Outline to get started. This project requires a Model Release Form for minors: Model Release Form for Minors under 13.

2. CopyCat

You have just been exposed to many inspiring photographers. You can learn a lot from imitating the masters. In the CopyCat Project Outline you will a photographer to copycat and replicate some of her/his photos.

3. HighLow

HighLow is all about value and contrast in photography.  In this project you will create High Key and Low Key photos for effect. Read the HighLow Project Outline to get started.

4. Film Photography (old school)

Want to learn how to shoot on film? How about processing your own print photos? This is the project where we learn it all! A fee of $20 will be charged for this project. Read the Film Photography project outline to get started. At the end of this project, you will keep 33 out of the 36 prints!

5. ​Shadows, Silhouettes and Reflections

​Some really interesting photography can be done with incidental light as its bounced off of objects. Read the Shadows, Silhouettes and Reflections Project Outline to learn more.

6. ​Lyric Abstract Photography

In this project, you will create an abstract photo based on a song or lyric of your choice. Review the Lyric Abstract Photography Project Outline to get started. 

7. Colour Triptych

Colour in one of the most powerful tools in a photographer's toolkit. In the Colour Triptych Project, you will create 3 separate images that relate to each other for display. You may need the Triptych Photoshop instructions to help you edit the final version. You may find the video tutorial Formatting For Posters helpful with this project.

ADOBE LIGHTROOM

 

Strut your skills in Lightroom by learning advanced features using this Complete LIghtroom Tutorial.* Focus on adjusting white balance, using the histogram, shadows, high key or low key, using presets, texture, clarity, diffuse, curves, HSL adjustment, and sharpening. Include the originals and edited versions.
*You may choose any alternative basic tutorial for Lightroom as you wish.

PHOTOSHOP LESSONS

1. Auto Format

Auto Format Your Images: Setup a function in Photoshop to format your images automatically. Use the Auto Format Tutorial to help you. Hand in one Landscape photo and one Portrait photo that have been completed by using your new auto format hotkeys.

2. Custom Formatting For White Balance Shooting Assignment

The Custom Formatting for the White Balance Shooting Assignment should be completed after you have finished shooting.
